How Tiffany stained glass lamps Are Made

The Tiffany-style lampshades stained glass panels, window etc. is very similar to a puzzle.

First, the puzzle should be designed. The design may begin as a drawing, painting, photo or other type of graphic art. Once this base model is selected, it must then be transformed into a stained glass design friendly. stained glass lampshades, doors, windows, etc. are subject to a stress that can easily break or breaking glass. Care must be taken to design theIndividual pieces and how they interact with each other in a structurally so that they add strength. Of course, all this must be done in the context of a good design. A simple comparison is a brick wall. To create a solid wall, you would not simply stack bricks on the line above the other, but you put them in such a way to lock and create a strong bond. structural design of stained glass is similar in principle. Another complication is that it is alwaysnecessary to maintain the beauty and integrity of the original object that is the subject of design.

Secondly, after the design of stained glass that is structurally sound friendly and aesthetic, it is necessary to create templates for each piece of glass which should be by design. This is usually done by tracing the outline of each piece of glass in the design on a type of heavy paper boats. Then, the kraft paper is cut into individual piecesrepresenting the different pieces of glass.

Third, each model of kraft paper is provided on a corresponding sheet of glass and cut by hand with a glass cutter. The sharp edges of glass are smoothed by a special tool or a grinder Grozinger glass. All parts are cut this way, then put on a copy of the original design to ensure that everything goes well.

Fourth, each piece of glass is individually wrapped around the edges (usually) brassfoil or a frame of zinc, then replaced on a copy of the original design to ensure a proper fit. Metal pins, straight edges and wooden frames are used to contain the entire project in place in anticipation of the weld.

Fifth, all the sheets of copper and zinc edges of all glass pieces are painted with a soldering flux. The glass pieces are then welded one to one until the whole project becomes a structure in one piece. The project is assigned and this flux and brazingstep is repeated on the other side.

Finally, detailed finishing welding is complete, then call a patina is applied to all metal parts.

There are many subtleties and variations of each of the steps above. But there are no shortcuts or other machines that simple hand tools used in authentic Tiffany-style stained glass.
