Lack of control over lighting leads to light pollution

If you are from a major metropolitan area like Los Angeles or New York, then you are surely familiar with all the lights that illuminate every busy intersection, billboard, department store and street. Populated with the amount of lighting that turns any large city fire light pollution becomes a major problem. Light pollution is one of the culprits to explain why we can not even see the infinite amount of stars in the night sky, the other major culprit pollution. Combinethe two together and you have a recipe for smog, hazy atmosphere that blankets the city.

Besides the fact that we have a lot of things, and I mean lots of lights in the city, why such a light pollution rampant and increasing problem? The reason could be because we do not use our lights properly. We'll use a small-scale model as an example: imagine that you just bought a table lamp for your living room. There is nothing extraordinary, it has a basic accordion-style lampshadow, a switch to three way power, and it uses a compact fluorescent bulb (because incandescent bulbs are not energy efficient). You understand that if you were not using a shade when the light is not contained in one sector of the room, dispersing in different areas. Assuming that the bulb is indeed bright, it would not be effective for control logic and not when the light goes out, so we use the shade.

Now take this scenario and multiply it by 100 times, thelack of control over outdoor lighting is a major reason why light pollution is such an issue. An article about light pollution found on Wikipedia.org, there are few ways that cities can help reduce light pollution such as improving lighting fixtures so they are fixed with lighting accuracy, reassessment plans lighting and know where lighting is needed, and switching, even on a different type of fluorescent lighting (incandescent bulbs versus).

Regardless, the lightPollution is bad for the environment and our psyche. If the problem continues to grow, we'll all forget what it's like to be able to see the night sky. With proper monitoring and improvements to city lights and household lighting, losing the sight of a night sky and natural light to waste will not be a certainty.
